Who’s to blame for violence against gay people? The evangelical agenda!

Who’s to blame for violence against gay people?

The evangelical agenda of fear, hate, ignorance, and intolerance;

A few years ago I heard a preacher speaking on an interview? He was being asked questions on his views about the murder of a young gay man. The person interviewing him asked what he thought about the individual who had murdered the young man. He looked, to his credit; dumbfounded and saddened. But then he said that he did not understand where the young man learned to hate someone; where he learned that it was ok to hurt someone like that. I wanted to jump through the screen and slap him. I wanted to tell him that it was so called Christian preachers in the modern church who told that young man that it was alright to murder his fellow man. Because that preacher and many like him stand at the pulpit every Sunday and tell people that their fellow man, their brothers and sisters of the world, their neighbors; any one who doesn’t believe what they do are evil, wrong, and corrupt. They tell their congregations who to blame for their problems, and who to fear. They tell them that anyone not of their point of view is less than; less than human, less than God’s child, and more, that they are sinful abominations, and mistakes! When they tell their congregations this they call it telling them the truth, or speaking the will of god, or preaching the gospel. However it is none of these things. It is an agenda of evil. These preachers are being used as instruments of spiritual darkness to rip humanity apart, to rip the church apart, to rip families apart, and to rip gay people away from the love of God! When these preachers stand up and say that ignorant phrase “love the sinner, hate the sin”, than they are making it acceptable in their religion for people to hate one another. This agenda of hate and ignorance has taken over America. Because most human beings can not separate who someone is from what they do. They do not know how to look at a person without looking at their actions! From the time we are children we here a phrase that is ingrained into all that we know; “actions speak louder than words”! And from the time we are children we are taught the great lie that “sticks, and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me”. not only has this lie aggrieved us as a people, not only can words hurt, but sometimes the words we speak keep on going; until they find someone in the wrong situation. Not only do words hurt, but they can kill! Or, we can wield them to create; to bring forth life, light, love, and healing. we can use them to destroy, or to build up, to grow, to evolve, and to empower!
We can use our words to bring either devastation or hope. I wonder if evangelicals ever think about which way God would want them to use their words! I have written many times how the words that were shot at me by my father and the public school system, and it’s students were like bullets firing into my heart, my mind, my body, and my soul. They made me small and weak, and I allowed myself to become a victim. Well I was wrong. I was wrong not to stand up for myself and to keep a shred of courage, conviction, and dignity. But then I too grew up believing that words lack any real power to hurt someone else even though experience had taught me differently. Words cause some scars that linger on, and stain the human soul, and never quite heal but leave their mark, and make lasting life long impressions on us, and in us. American evangelicals are all of sudden so concerned with civil liberties. They want the right to the freedom of speech but they want to ignore every other liberty guaranteed to other people. Like the right to the pursuit of happiness, the right to speak our truth, the right to marry, and the right to worship as we see fit. They want all freedoms and rights promised to them, but they seek to deny those same rights to the rest of us. They have proven through their actions that they are power mad, and hungry. They have god complexes. They have proven through their lack of spiritual fruits that they are not God’s representatives at all. Nor are they the voice of the true church! They seek to control, coerce, condemn, corrupt, and convert all of us to their way of thinking, living, and being. They do not, can not, and will not speak for us. They can only speak against us, and against the truth! They are agents of evil. I would like to tell the evangelicals that they are either for us or against us, and if they are against us then they are also against God who made us in his image and never makes mistakes! You can not make people love God and go to heaven, and live how you want them to live, or think how you want them to think. You can’t “save” people through fear, or from their truths. And even more than this, you shouldn’t seek to if you belong to God. This was not the way Christ did things; and he is suppose to be the example that we are trying to live up to. He didn’t inspire fear, but love! He didn’t try to scare people into heaven or demand that they behave in any particular way. His ways were righteous with love and it made people want to evolve themselves. He met people where they were. The evangelicals in stark contrast to Christ and his teachings try to make people come to God through fear, through hate and violence. They try to scare people into choosing God by putting on plays like hell house. And the world at large thinks that this hate is what Christianity is all about! They are turning people away from God instead of towards him. When angels that are of God come the first thing they say is fear not! But that isn’t the message put forth by the evangelical agenda which says fear everything; be afraid, very afraid. Everything they do is more anti-christian than the last. They are creating these young murderers and monsters. They are planting the seeds of murder, hate, fear, and violence in the hearts of the young children, and foolish adults in their congregations. They are inciting attacks on the gay community. They are in the business of making killers! That is who they are and what they do! It is people like fred phelps and anita bryant that are causing physical harm and even the sin of murder to happen on poor innocent souls like Mathew Shepard. They have created a war that is being waged on us! it is time for evangelicals to wake up and end the war; to end their sins against us and against God, by realizing that words do matter. Words can hurt. Words can kill. Words can cripple. Words become actions. Those actions in turn have consequences. Some Gay people have paid with their lives for the words that evangelicals have spoke. Sometimes the right to live in peace outweighs the right to free speech. If we are to truly hold the right people accountable for the murders of members of the gay community then we must not only punish those who actually committed the murders but also those that incited them, inspired them, and made their actions alright and righteous! I wanted to tell that preacher that it was him who told those murderers that it was ok because of the words he uttered from the pulpit every Sunday. Why is it that evangelicals feel it is ok to preach a rigid adherence and literally interpretation to some parts of the bible while completely ignoring other parts to suit their agenda?

There is a Melissa Etheridge song about Mathew Shepard called scarecrow. In it there is a line that asks “where can these monsters hide”; speaking of murderers. They are all around us and we are helping make them in church. It is time we who are Christians realize this and put a stop to it.

A section from the song scarecrow;

“…We all gasp this can't happen here
We're all much too civilized
Where can these monsters hide

But they are knocking on our front door
They're rocking in our cradles
They're preaching in our churches
And eating at our tables…

I search my soul
My heart and in my mind
To try and find forgiveness
This is someone child
With pain unreconciled
Filled up with father's hate
Mother's neglect
I can forgive, But I will not forget

Scarecrow crying
Waiting to die wondering why…”

The evangelical agenda tells us that it is ok to hate. It says love the sinner but hate the sin. It is not our jobs to hate the sin or to place judgment on people. That is God’s place, and God alone should fulfill that task. They say they don’t understand how people can feel that it is alright to kill, even though they kill every time they preach hate. Well the answer is simple; because they told them it was ok! There is a song from a Broadway musical called “Into the woods” that answers their questions, it is called “children will listen.

“How do you say to your child in the night?
Nothing's all black, but then nothing's all white
How do you say it will all be all right
When you know that it might not be true?
What do you do?

Careful the things you say
Children will listen
Careful the things you do
Children will see and learn
Children may not obey, but children will listen
Children will look to you for which way to turn
Co learn what to be
Careful before you say "Listen to me"
Children will listen

Careful the wish you make
Wishes are children
Careful the path they take
Wishes come true, not free
Careful the spell you cast
Not just on children
Sometimes the spell may last
Past what you can see
And turn against you
Careful the tale you tell
That is the spell
Children will listen

How can you say to a child who's in flight
Don't slip away and i won't hold so tight
What can you say that no matter how slight Won't be misunderstood
What do you leave to your child when you're dead?
Only whatever you put in it's head
Things that you're mother and father had said
Which were left to them too
Careful what you say
Children will listen
Careful you do it too
Children will see
And learn, oh guide them that step away
Children will glisten
Temper with what is true
And children will turn
If just to be free
Careful before you say
Listen to me
Children will listen”

These same evangelicals protest abortion by killing abortionists! These same people stand at the edges of pride parades and spew forth hate! These same people stand outside of funerals and scream vile filth at the mourners and relatives of those who are dead. They go to places like Uganda and tell them to commit genocide and a holocaust on their gay citizens. What we need to ask ourselves is this; what kind of words do we speak, how, and who do they impact? We need to ask ourselves if we as a nation can afford this terrible hate that the evangelical agenda espouses? We need to ask ourselves if these people are who we want to emulate and become? If we are honest and right with God then we must stand up and say, No More! The evangelical agenda must die! Evil must be stamped out! And it is up to all of us as God’s children to speak against the agents of the devil who preach the evangelical agenda! Let us reevaluate ourselves and come back to God. Let us reunite with each other, as siblings in life! do we really want to continue allowing our families to be ripped apart? Do we really want to allow anyone to make us feel ashamed? Do we really want to let other people make our love for each other, for our children, brothers, sisters, and parents to be turned into shame and rage? No, it is time for love, and time for healing! most of all it is time for change to come; for us to have hope again! Stop the spread of the evil evangelical agenda. Stop it by not listening to it anymore! Speak against it when it arises. Vote it down when it comes up for election! Use your voice, your choice, and your votes for peace, tolerance, and love! Use your vote for equality! Do that which is right! What kind of legacy do you want to leave our children? let’s end the legacy of silence, hate, and shame, and instead Let us leave a legacy of Love!

I want to leave you with a couple of thoughts; this is not a case where indifference is an option. and secondly i want you to remember an old teaching which states "evil thrives when good men do nothing"! I am asking you that famous question "have you no decency sir, at long last have you no decency"?
